How close does it have to feel to Fellowship of the Rockies?

Some schools share the same nondenominational evangelical culture as FOR. Others — Church of the Nazarene, Assemblies of God, Wesleyan — feel meaningfully different in worship style and daily culture.

Some schools require Bible classes every semester, mandatory chapel multiple times a week, and faith in every course. Others are Christian-affiliated but give you freedom to engage as deeply as you want.

Some schools feel like a small town — you know your professors, everyone sees everyone. Others are large enough to find your crowd over time. Neither is better — but they feel completely different.

Schools on this list range from about 1,000 undergrads to 25,000. Size affects class size, professor accessibility, clubs, and how campus feels on a random Tuesday.

A Small — under 2,500 students. I want to actually know people. B Medium — 2,500 to 7,000. Enough variety without feeling lost. C Large — 7,000+. I like having options and room to find my people. D Size doesn't matter much to me.

Small classes where the professor knows you, or bigger lectures where you set your own pace?

At smaller schools, professors know your name by week two and notice if you disappear. At larger schools, you have more independence — great if you're self-motivated.

How important is the outdoor environment — mountains, beach, hiking?

Where you spend four years matters beyond just the campus. Some schools put you minutes from trails, ski slopes, or the ocean. Others are in cities or flat midwestern towns.

A Really important — I want mountains, trails, or water within reach. B Nice to have, but not a dealbreaker. C Doesn't matter. I'm there for school, not the scenery. D I'd actually prefer a city environment over outdoor recreation.

Does cost need to be as low as possible, or is the right fit worth paying more for?

Schools on this list range from $15,000 to $34,000 per year after financial aid. Some of the best fits are in the middle.

A Cost has to be as low as possible — it's a real constraint. B We want to be careful with cost, but we can stretch for the right school. C Cost matters, but the right fit is worth the difference. D Cost isn't the main factor in this decision.

Do you want a lot of structure — mandatory chapel, tracked attendance, clear rules — or more freedom?

Some schools require daily chapel, track attendance closely, and have strict campus policies. Others give you much more freedom. Structure can help you stay on track — or feel restrictive if it's not your style.

If you became a licensed counselor, would you want to practice anywhere in the country?

Some programs carry a national credential (CACREP) making it easy to get licensed in any state. Others satisfy requirements only in specific states.

A I want a credential that works anywhere — I have no idea where I'll end up. B I'm pretty sure I'll stay in the West, so regional is probably fine. C I don't know enough about this yet. D I'm leaning more toward ministry, so this matters less to me.

When you start to fall behind or lose track of assignments, what kind of support do you want?

Some schools have built-in systems — an advisor who notices when things slip and reaches out. Others have great resources but expect you to go find them.

A I want someone at the school to notice and reach out before things get bad. B I want strong resources available, but I'd rather go find them myself. C I want to figure it out myself — I don't want a school checking in on me. D I'm not sure. It depends on how hard the class is.

One path leads to working with individuals and families in a clinic or church. The other leads into a school building helping students K–12. Some schools here are strong for one path but not the other.

College is a big transition. Having support available for stress, grief, adjustment, or anything else matters more than most people expect.

A Very important. I want to know professionals are on campus and easy to access. B Somewhat important, but I'd likely lean on family, church, or community first. C Not a major factor — I have strong support outside of school already. D I haven't really thought about this before.

Some schools weigh essays and personal background heavily. Others rely mostly on test scores and transcripts. Your background and story are genuinely compelling.
